Want to help low-literate adults use a Free Phone App to learn to read better? You'll help break the cycle of poverty by helping develop someone’s literacy skills to compete in our knowledge based economy, complete secondary education, read employment contracts, complete forms to get help or to simply be able to read aloud to their child.

Adult Literacy XPRIZE Philadelphia
United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey is proud to partner with Points of Light and Campaign for Working Families to recruit volunteers; City of Philadelphia’s Office of Adult Education to reach adult learners; the Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE: a $7 million global competition to transform the lives of low-literate adults. Our vision is to empower nearly 1 in 10 low-literate adults living in the United States with the skills they need to improve their lives and realize their dreams.
What is XPRIZE?
Presented by Dollar General Literacy Foundation, XPRIZE challenges teams to develop mobile applications that result in the greatest increase in literacy skills among participating adult learners in just 12 months. The solutions will overcome key barriers to literacy learning by improving access, while increasing retention and scaling to meet demand. Volunteers will help distribute and field test free mobile phone apps proven to help improve adult literacy.
