Volunteer: Read Books to Children in School Library

The West Philadelphia Alliance for Children is seeking new volunteers to serve as Library Team Members in our school libraries for 2017-2018.

Volunteering for a WePAC library means being a part of a team of caring people passionate about sharing the love of reading with the children of West Philadelphia. Together, each library team plans read aloud sessions that support classroom learning. Volunteers read aloud to our students during storytime and help them select books to borrow during check out.

Library teams see classes on a regular basis, coordinated with each school’s schedule. We hold our library programs in the school libraries that we maintain. We are responsible for the appearance and organization of our libraries. Together, we decorate the library, catalogue donated books, check books in and out and reshelve books. We draw on the diverse skills of our team to nurture literacy in our children.

No library experience required.

School libraries make a difference. WePAC volunteers change stories.

Please visit us online at wepac.org to fill out a New Volunteer Registration Form or for more information.

Volunteer: Help people in NW Philly by joining our fundraising & event committee!

About our committee

The Resource Development Committee works to obtain donations of cash and other resources to augment existing funding and to address unmet service needs.  The committee engages in various fund-raising activities, endeavors to generate community support for the organization’s programs and services, and directs the public image of the Corporation via multi-media usage and through relationships with educational and social institutions, the business community and the community at large.

The primary vehicle the committee uses to meet its goal is currently the annual “Caring for the Community” auction.  This event was started in 1996 to raise funds for and awareness of our programs and services.  Over the years the event has grown from a simple silent auction to a banquet-style event including presentations and entertainment, culminating in a live auction.  The event also hosts the presentation of our Community Appreciation Award which is given to an individual or group that has made a significant impact on the communities we serve.

Resource Development Committee members act as steering committee for the auction.  They also provide input into potential funding channels and help establish and maintain relationships with potential and current funders.

We are seeking volunteers interested helping us in our mission and help their community.  Volunteers are asked to be available for monthly meetings, either via teleconference or at our headquarters in Roxborough; these meetings are an hour.  Volunteers can give more time and expertise depending on their interest and availability.

About Interact

Intercommunity Action helps people live fulfilling lives by providing resources for aging, behavioral health, and intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Our vision is “Everyone Deserves a Fulfilling Life.”  Interact serves over 3,000 people every year in over 20 programs across our three program divisions. We serve the Philadelphia neighborhoods of Roxborough, Manayunk, East Falls, Andorra, and Wissahickon, as well as surrounding communities, and several of our programs are citywide.
